17th Edition of the Ohiyo Wilderness Rescue Camp for Scouts Canada Ohiyo Area Troops and Companies. Bring your Scouting youth to learn about rescue skills and first aid. Older youth (Vents) are encouraged to assist Scouters in providing program to the younger Scouts. Round robin sessions for acquiring skills. Scenarios to put skills learned into practice. Overnight scenario for older youth (3rd & 4th Yr Scouts & Vents).

Each year for the last 16 years Ohiyo has organized the Wilderness Rescue Camp. This year will be the 17th edition, plans are progressing and your registration is now requested. Invitations are extended to groups outside of Ohiyo for Scouts and Vents. If you know other Groups who may be interested, please forward this invitation to them and also let me know.

The camp follows the Canadian Path, offering program sessions related to survival and rescue. After the program sessions, scenarios are presented to allow participants to put into practice the skills learned in the program.

Please enter the projected numbers of Scouts, Vents and Scouters AS SOON AS POSSIBLE by completing an entry in the top half of the linked google doc. As a start, we just need the approximate numbers, then we will need further details. The deadline for sign up and program selection is Friday 9th November.

Participating Scouts have the following program sessions to choose from:

a) First Aid, b) Search & Rescue, c) Fire (Basic), d) Fire (Advanced) e) Shelter (A-Frame), f) Shelter (Lean-to), g) Water Purification. See the attached flyer for more details.

Further details:

  1. For those participating in the program sessions divide your Scouts and Vents into teams of 3 or 4 then have them choose which activities the teams want to do.
    • Fill in the lower part of the registration tab (Red, Purple & Yellow columns) with the Group name, program choices and the names of the team members.
  2. For Vents who want to assist in program delivery enter their names in the program areas they want to help with.
  3. Repeat for Scouters in the top section of the form.

Once we have all teams and their program choices, a detailed schedule will be provided for each team

For each group participating, we will need at least one Scouter to help with organizing or on the day support at camp. In addition to the skill sessions we are in need of volunteers for Opening and Closing ceremonies, Scouts Own and Campfire.

The schedule will be co-ordinated with TSR cafeteria so that those groups wanting to take advantage of the meal deal at TSR can do so. Contact TSR directly for prices and availability of the meal deal. When booking at TSR mention that you will be part of WRC.

    This sounds like an interesting event! Is it 1 or 2 day event? Do scouts and Vents come up Friday night? What is the event fee? Is catering included ?

  2. The fee is $15. The groups / sections are also responsible for their own camp fees and for food. Some tent, some use cabins, so the cost is dependant on their choice of accommodation. The same goes for food, they can cater for themselves, or enquire about catering options at TSR.
    It is a 2 night camp, arrive on Friday evening, depart Sunday around mid-day Program runs from Saturday morning through late Sunday morning. Please e-mail me at sharte@videotron.ca with your details and I will add you to our distribution list for further information. Thanks.
